  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule and manage bartenders, barbacks and other venue hospitality staff.
  • Build staffing plans appropriate to projected attendance and event type.
  • Actively read the room throughout events and adjust staffing and deployment based on real-time guest volume.
  • Maintain high standards of speed, professionalism, hospitality and responsible alcohol service.
  • Work closely with ownership to continually improve operating procedures, labor efficiency and the guest experience.

Security & Guest Experience

  • Coordinate the hiring, scheduling and management of security personnel.
  • Ensure appropriate security staffing based on attendance, artist, event type and anticipated crowd.
  • Maintain a visible leadership presence throughout events.
  • Oversee guest flow, entry, bars, seating areas and overall venue experience.
  • Handle guest issues quickly, professionally and confidently.
  • Collaborate with our restaurant operator so that guests experience The Cut as one cohesive hospitality and entertainment destination.

  • Complete artist/show settlements and facilitate payment at the end of the night.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communicate important operational issues directly to ownership.
  • Ensure the building is properly closed and secured following events.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate is an experienced hospitality leader who genuinely enjoys live music, entertainment and working in a fast-moving environment.

You should be someone who can walk into a room of hundreds of people and quickly determine what is working, what isn't and what needs to change.

You are equally comfortable talking with a touring artist, coaching a bartender, directing security, resolving a guest concern and sitting down at the end of the night to complete a settlement.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of management experience.
  • Significant experience managing high-volume bar operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, train, schedule and lead hospitality teams.
  • Comfortable managing large crowds and high-volume events.
  • Strong judgment and ability to make decisions quickly under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while communicating directly and effectively with ownership.
  • TIPS certification or ability to become/re-become TIPS certified promptly.
  • Availability to work nights, weekends and holidays as required by the event calendar.

Strongly Preferred

  • Previous live music, nightclub, entertainment venue, concert or large-event experience.
  • Experience with artist hospitality and riders.
  • Experience completing artist or entertainment settlements.
  • Experience overseeing security personnel.
  • Familiarity with high-volume beverage operations and event staffing.

The Schedule

This is a full-time leadership position, but it is not a traditional Monday-through-Friday job.

The majority of operational hours will fall during nights and weekends, particularly Thursday through Sunday when the venue is busiest.

Because many events end late at night, close proximity to Gloucester is strongly preferred. Candidates should realistically consider the commute required for frequent late-night shifts before applying.

Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Compensation

Compensation will be commensurate with experience, with a targeted base salary of $75,000–$95,000 annually.

The position also includes an opportunity to participate in profit sharing, giving the right leader the ability to benefit directly from the continued growth and success of The Cut Live.

Why This Role Is Different

This is an opportunity to play a meaningful leadership role in a growing, independent live entertainment venue rather than simply manage another bar or restaurant.

You will work directly with ownership, have significant autonomy over the nightly operation and help shape the culture and guest experience of The Cut as we continue to grow.

If you love live music, thrive in high-energy environments and know how to lead a hospitality team when the room is full and everything is happening at once, we'd like to hear from you.

To apply: Please submit a resume to info@thecutlive.com along with a brief introduction explaining your experience managing high-volume hospitality operations and why a live entertainment environment appeals to you.

The Cut Live is located in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Jobcode: Reference SBJ-12pb0y-35-215-156-25-42 in your application.

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Director of Venue Operations to oversee the day-to-day and nightly operations of the venue and serve as a key member of our leadership team.

This is not a behind-the-desk management position.

We are looking for someone who loves the energy of a packed room, knows how to lead a high-volume bar operation, remains calm when plans change, and can simultaneously think about the guest at the front door, the bartender who needs another set of hands, the artist waiting backstage and the overall flow of the building.
